Frizz Control

Frizz is not hair misbehaving, it is hair that is thirsty. A dry cuticle lifts to pull moisture out of the air, and that is what causes frizzy hair.

So the anti frizz hair products worth buying put moisture back in and keep the cuticle closed.

The milkshake (milk_shake) frizz control picks are below. The full guide, hard water included, sits under the products.

About this collection

Frizz is usually thirst. When the cuticle is raised and the inside of the hair is dry, it pulls moisture from the air, swells and lifts. That is why frizz is worse on humid days and worse again on hard water.

So the fix is rarely a product that seals the outside alone. These frizz control products work on both: enough conditioning to stop the hair reaching for moisture in the first place, then a smoothing layer to keep the cuticle flat.

Which one to start with

Leave In Conditioner is the everyday one: a detangling spray built on the milk proteins the brand is named for, sprayed on wet hair and left in.

Whipped Cream Leave-in Foam is the one for fine hair. It is a milk-protein leave-in in foam form, so it spreads without the weight that drops a root.

Flower Fragrance Incredible Milk is the all-rounder, a leave-in spray mask that detangles, controls frizz and protects from heat in one step. It is the vegan edition.

Curl Passion Leave-in Conditioner is the anti frizz leave in cream for curls and waves. It is weightless, so it will not flatten the curl pattern by day three.

INSTA.LOTION is the one for a bad day: an instant conditioning lotion for hair that needs help right now rather than over a routine.

Why is my hair frizzy?

Because the outer layer is dry and lifted, so it takes moisture from the air instead of holding its own. Heat, hard water and a shampoo that strips too hard all make it worse. It is a moisture problem before it is a styling problem.

What is the best anti frizz product for fine hair?

Weight is what decides it, not strength. Coarse hair will take a cream or an oil. Fine hair is flattened by both and does better with a light leave-in, which is why Whipped Cream Leave-in Foam is the fine-hair pick here.

Is an anti frizz conditioner enough on its own?

For mild frizz, often yes. For frizz that comes back the moment you step outside, a rinse-out conditioner is doing half the job. The half that lasts is the leave-in you put on wet hair and do not rinse.

Do frizz control products work on curls?

The ones built for curls do. A smoothing product designed to flatten will take the pattern out with the frizz, which is not the same result. The Curl Passion line is the one to use on curls and waves, and there is a Curly Girl Method guide if you are starting from scratch.

Does hard water make frizz worse?

Yes, and most of England is hard. The minerals sit on the hair and stop conditioner doing its job, so hair reads as dry however much you put on it. There is a full guide to hard water and hair, and it is worth reading before you buy anything else.
